Reduced bail for Region 8 man slapped with rape charge

first_imgThe 20-year-old man accused of having sexual relations with a 13-year-old girl was on Tuesday granted reduced bail for the charge against him when he reappeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.Jacob Stanislas of Monkey Mountain, Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni) was granted $200,000 bail as opposed to the original $250,000 when his attorney, Tiffany Jeffrey, made the reduced bail application. In her application, the lawyer revealed that her client was one of six children for his parents who are farmers. As such, they are limited in their finances and were unable to pay bail for the accused.Chief Magistrate McLennan granted the request, but ordered that the defendant find another place of abode since the victim in the matter would visit Monkey Mountain. The charge against Stanislas alleged that between October 1 and November 1, 2017 at the said Monkey Mountain, the 20-year-old had sexual relations with a 13-year-old.According to Stanislas’ Attorney, her client was having a consensual relationship with the young woman. However, her family members gained knowledge of such and reported the matter to the Police, which – the lawyer said – is the only reason Stanislas is being brought before the courts.last_img read more

West Ham chief promises there are more signings to come

first_imgWest Ham co-owner David Sullivan insists the club are far from finished in the transfer market and hopes Sam Allardyce will have the resources to play a more attacking formation next season. The east London club have already been busy strengthening the squad and have brought in Argentine forward Mauro Zarate, Senegal international Cheikhou Kouyate, highly rated full-back Aaron Cresswell and teenage midfielder Diego Poyet. The club faced a relegation battle for the majority of last season and Sullivan is desperate to ensure the same thing does not happen again next term. When asked if the club were finished in the transfer market, Sullivan said: “100 per cent. No.”Allardyce came under fire for his negative tactics last season and the team were booed off the pitch in March even though they beat Hull at Upton Park. With West Ham signing more attacking players like Zarate and Poyet, Sullivan hopes there will be more options for Allardyce to switch things around and he could even play a 4-4-2 formation.Sullivan, speaking on WHUFCTV.com, added:  “I hope so, at least we have a plan B now, if we are losing the game.” 1 West Ham co-owner David Sullivan last_img read more
