Australian travellers are amongst the most fiscally responsible travellers in the world, according to a new study. Accommodating to the money savvy Aussie traveller, STA has launched a new ‘Lay-By’ program, which allows Australians to lock in their holiday at cheaper booking prices and pay them off over time, without using a credit card. Image: commons.wikimedia In addition, only 55 percent of Aussie trips booked with STA were made on a credit card, compared to 97 percent in the US and 95 percent booked in the UK. Meanwhile, 66 percent of Australian respondents said they would ‘raid the piggy bank and pay cash’ to book a trip, while 21 percent said they would be willing to go into debt for their travels. STA Travel research found Aussies are amongst the least likely travellers to go into debt for a holiday, with travellers in the US and UK twice as willing to go into debt to book overseas trips than Australians.
