Khabib Nurmagomedov hits back at critics after 5th cancellation of fight vs. Tony Ferguson

first_imgKhabib Nurmagomedov says he is more upset than anybody that his fight with Tony Ferguson has been postponed for a fifth time, this one because of the coronavirus pandemic. The unbeaten UFC lightweight champion was due to face Ferguson at UFC 249 on April 18, but the COVID-19 outbreak meant the event could not take place at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. Nurmagomedov had been informed it was “99 percent” certain that he would still do battle with Ferguson, and Abu Dhabi was set to stage the event. Staying home in quarantine and reading the reaction of people to the situation around my fight, it turns out that the whole world should be in quarantine, governments of all countries, famous people around the world urge people to follow all safety requirements in order to limit the spread of the disease, to save people, and Khabib is the only one relieved of all obligations and must demonstrate free will and train flying around the world, for the sake of fight? – I understand everything and I’m definitely upset more than you to cancel the fight, probably like all others, I had many plans after the fight, but I can’t control it all. The greatest countries and the largest companies of our time are shocked by what is happening, every day the situation changes unpredictably. But Khabib still has to fight, is that what you saying? – Take care of yourself and put yourself in my shoes. A post shared by Khabib Nurmagomedov (@khabib_nurmagomedov) on Apr 1, 2020 at 12:02pm PDTRewatch classic fights on DAZN”Staying home in quarantine and reading the reaction of people to the situation around my fight, it turns out that the whole world should be in quarantine,” Nurmagomedov wrote on Instagram. “(G)overnments of all countries, famous people around the world urge people to follow all safety requirements in order to limit the spread of the disease, to save people, and Khabib is the only one relieved of all obligations and must demonstrate free will and train flying around the world, for the sake of fight?”I understand everything and I’m definitely upset more than you to cancel the fight, probably like all others, I had many plans after the fight, but I can’t control it all.” The 31-year-old Russian on Wednesday said there is no chance he can fight as he follows orders to remain at home.center_img View this post on Instagramlast_img read more

LNOC Carries Ebola Fight to 7 Counties

first_imgIn an effort to wipe out the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) from Ebola hit countries, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in collaboration with the Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC) is launching an Ebola awareness campaign in the country, under the theme: “Do Not Stigmatize Ebola Survivors. They Are Our People, Embrace Them.”The campaign will focus on recovery in the fight against Ebola — simplify the de-stigmatization of Ebola survivors, and the LNOC is involving over 70,000 students in the leeward counties. Its president Philipbert Browne told journalists yesterday at LNOC headquarters on Randall Street, in Monrovia, seven counties will receive anti-Ebola materials, of which 80% will be for schools, and 20% for sporting associations and/or athletes.Browne said the distribution of the anti-Ebola items would begin on Monday, January 23, in Grand Cape Mount County, with the donation of 200 large anti-Ebola buckets with pumps, 40 cartons of Bleach Clora, five pieces of thermometers and dozens of detergents (soaps) and antiseptic soaps.Brown further said similar donations would be given to all the counties.Bomi County is expected to receive its supplies on January 23rd and on Tuesday, February 24th will be the turn of Margibi and Grand Bassa Counties.Distributions will continue on Wednesday, Feb. 25 February, in Bong County and Nimba County on Thursday, Feb. 26, to be climaxed the next day in Grand Gedeh County.“Before the distribution of anti-Ebola items County Superintendents and Sports Coordinators must be in attendance,” Browne said.He maintained that the continuous awareness against the Ebola virus is important and warned that “if we take our eye off the ball, case numbers will climb again.”Mr. Malcolm Joseph, LNOC’s vice president for Technical Affairs said despite the low infection rate, there is a need to sustain the effort to reach a ‘zero infection rate.’Joseph said a single case is equivalent to an outbreak and the threat it poses will not be over until the last case is identified and isolated. It may be recalled that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach and the President of Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) H.E Sheikh Ahmed Al-Sabah in separate remarks, expressed concern and the efforts needed to combat the virus from the affected countries.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more

DD Motoring: The Toyota Corolla

first_imgThis week I drove a car that is just two years younger than myself! Well its name is anyway. As I wait for the heavy frost to clear from the windscreen the radio picks up a station where the Eagles are strumming out one of their old classics, “New Kid in Town”.The late Toyota Corrola which we drove this week, The Corolla has sold 40 million since it start in production in 1966, Photo Brian McDaid“There’s talk on the street; it sounds so familiar.Great expectations, everybody’s watching you.People you meet, they all seem to know you.Even your old friends treat you like you’re something new.Johnny come lately, the new kid in town.Everybody loves you, so don’t let them down. Advertisement Hidden DiamondsBorn in ’66 but not available to buy in Donegal to the early 70s, the first man to bring them here didn’t buy one but bought a half-a-dozen of them! He started out in life in the fruit and vegetable business. This young entrepreneur decided to move his business from selling cabbages to selling cars.In the Diamond in Donegal Town one night he spotted a lorry load of new cars parked up. When he tracked down the truck driver he was to find out that the cars were on the way back to Dublin because of a complication between the supplier and the buyer. Before the lorry left the Diamond the following morning had gathered up enough money to buy the shipment of cars.It was a massive risk for him and for them who supported him. No one had seen the likes of these cars before. He didn’t know that day if he had bought a pun of peaches or a lorry load of lemons. I am very happy to retell this story that the late Joe Kelly told me one evening in Mountcharles over a bottle of Smithwicks. Advertisement Joe Kelly who took the best selling car in the world to Donegal. He was the “new kid in town” the night he took his chance and bought a load of cars off the back of a lorry. They were Toyota Corollas and it was to become the start of one of the most successful dealerships in both his native Frosses and Letterkenny.Back to the futureIt’s now January 2018 and you still can buy a Toyota Corolla in Kelly’s but sadly not from Big Joe anymore, but happily from the next generation his sons Brendan in Letterkenny or Martin in Frosses and their sales team are there to help. Today 52 years after the first Corolla was built you can still buy one new.The retro looking interior is so refreshing to me especially before you turn the key. It reminds me why I went for my first of three corollas thirty odd years ago when I did massive miles in Co. Donegal covering news for the Donegal Democrat.A car similar to the Corolla I bought in the 80s for Kelly Toyota. The cars never gave me a days bother. I had three of them, a back wheel drive, and two front wheel drives in petrol and diesel. Unfortunately, I wasn’t as lucky as Big Joe was in getting the cash in my days! I came in from Kellys after chatting to Joe Kelly buzzing after I took a run in a Corolla GT in metallic silver registration 2145 ZP.My assistant bank manager soon let the air out of my tyres when he informed me that I was behind in my payments and he thought I’d be better to let this car go!The Tax book with my name as the second owner of one of my Toyota Corolla a, Twin Cham version which I was the bough of the late Joe Kelly over 30 years ago, Photo Brian McDaidSecond opinion! On my way out of the bank I met the manager coming in. “How are you Brian?” “How would you be sir?” They just turned me down for a loan!” was my short sharp reply. The manager turned me on the doorway and got my file to see what the story was.He had a look, gave out to me as well about missing payments but decided to overturn the decision. Not alone did I get a loan but he signed me up for a credit card and sold me a life insurance policy! In retro interior of the Toyota Corolla that has all the technology included.I am feeling very at home in this, the latest generation Corolla, it does everything effortlessly, it’s a diesel but it’s very hard to tell as it’s so quiet. The car has all the technology and safety features and is ever so polite to let you know when you’re exceeding the speed limit for the road that you’re on. The Corolla is timeless and familiar, not unlike the Eagles track, it may not be the new kid in town anymore, but it has stood the test of time. The Toyota Corolla no fuss reliability has quietly done the talking for the last 50 years. And in that time over 40 million motorists have listened to them and bought a Corolla. That’s more sales than the Ford Model T and VW Beetle Sales combined which were both number ones world sellers in their day.Toyota have kept the Corolla in production because people do not like change. The Toyota Carina was also a great family favourite for Toyota in Donegal too, but family demands look for different things now as does the future of the planet. It is planned for 2019 to have the Corolla in a hybrid version like all the rest of the range of family cars, but for now it’s that familiar face that has kept motorist happy for over a half a century.Happy Motoring Folks.DD Motoring: The Toyota Corolla was last modified: January 12th, 2018 by Brian McDaidShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:brian mc daidcarreviewToyota Corollatwin camlast_img read more
