Block of land on Gold Coast’s Millionaires’ Row fetches $4 million

first_imgThe vacant block of land at 49 Hedges Ave, Mermaid Beach, has sold for more than $4 million.A BARE block of land will go down in history as one of the most expensive on Mermaid Beach’s Millionaires’ Row after changing hands for more than $4 million.A local buyer already living in the suburb snapped up the slim 405sq m block at 49 Hedges Ave, which was one of the few remaining vacant sites on the strip.Marketing agent Tony Velissariou of Tony V said the buyers had plans to build on the site.“They’re planning to build their family home there,” he said.“I believe that Hedges Ave is becoming quite strong in the market place now and holding it’s own. The block and its vacant neighbour have a lot of history.Veteran property developer John Potter bought it and its neighbour at No. 47 as a pair in 2016.He splashed $7.7 million on the double block and had plans to build a multi-level apartment building. However, in 2017 he changed his plans and decided to sell the blocks separately. The property next door sold for $4.6 million in late 2017 to Highgrove Bathrooms founder Lindsay Sinclair, who had plans for a tri-level mansion, but it remains vacant. After selling his home at number 9-11 Hedges Ave to Clive Palmer for $12 million last year, Mr Potter decided to keep the block at No. 49, but then reneged on his plans after snapping up an old shack on the street.last_img read more

Bernier raises the question of time zone for Peace Region as BC and Alberta look to make permanent switch to DST

first_img– Advertisement -According to Bernier, Alberta is also looking at switching to permanent DST. Given the proximity and business that is done with Alberta, Bernier has a sense that most residents would choose to go with Alberta’s time then being synced with B.C.’s time. Bernier says, in order to decide what time zone the Region wants to be in, a public referendum would have to be held but it would have to wait until Alberta makes a decision on its time zone. One person, in particular, raising that question is Peace River South MLA, Mike Bernier. Since the Peace Region will be on the same time once the rest of the Province permanently springs ahead, Bernier wonders if residents of the Peace Region will want to join the Pacific Time or go with Alberta’s time. FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – With the Province of British Columbia looking to set the time zone to permanent Daylight Saving Time, it raises the question as to what some areas, such as the Peace Region on Mountain Standard Time, will do once the change is enacted. Even if Alberta chooses to make the switch, there would still be an hour difference between the provinces.Advertisementlast_img read more
