Xbox Exclusive Crackdown 3 Delayed to Spring 2018

first_imgCrackdown 3 has been in development for some time now. It was set to release alongside the Xbox One X on November 7. For many, this was Xbox’s biggest holiday title. It appears this is no longer the case. Microsoft has just announced Crackdown 3 will now release sometime in Spring 2018.Microsoft Studios Publishing general manager, Shannon Loftis, explained the situation to Polygon.“We’re very excited about Crackdown 3, and so are many fans, and so it’s a difficult call to move the release date,” said Loftis. “However, we want to make sure to deliver the right game, with the right quality, and at the right time. Crackdown 3 is a hugely ambitious game, and we want to ensure we deliver the right experiences all the way through every part of the game, whether that’s campaign, co-op multiplayer or our competitive multiplayer mode, Wrecking Zone. Getting the balance right between the three modes is important, and we are going to take the extra development time to ensure that. Gamers can expect Crackdown 3 in Spring of 2018.”She continued by saying:“Crackdown 3 is an incredibly ambitious project that pushes the technological envelope with immersive true 4K gameplay, cloud-computing competitive multiplayer and a sprawling and futuristic open world. The team has been working extremely hard to deliver a great experience for fans and this extra time will help us do just that.”Crackdown 3 received some criticism about its visual presentation after this year’s E3. A demonstration during San Diego Comic Con last month didn’t help matters either. Because of that, this area is getting the most attention from the developers.“What we showed at E3 was a preview of the game, and is a great indicator of the level of mayhem and vertical platforming action you can expect from Crackdown 3,” Loftis said. “Among other items, we are taking the extra time to focus on the visual polish so gamers can feel completely immersed in a living world. We want them to really feel the larger-than life enemies as they’re exploring the expansive open world, combating crime and collecting orbs.”This delay makes it harder to justify purchasing an Xbox One X on launch day. While the $500 mid-gen upgrade console is certainly worth the price, it lacks any powerhouse exclusives. Right now, Forza Motorsport 7 is the de facto showcase title for the system. While Forza 7 will certainly be a hit among racing enthusiasts, it lacks the mass appeal of Crackdown 3. Microsoft will hold a conference at this year’s Gamescom. Hopefully, the company will announce more exclusives for its console.Let us know what you like about Geek by taking our survey.last_img
