Capaldi Retrospective to Follow Doctor Who Christmas Special

first_imgStay on target Save room after the ham and pie: BBC America is doling out a double (triple?) helping of Doctor Who this Christmas. As expected, holiday special “Twice Upon a Time” is scheduled to air at 9 p.m. EST.But, stay tuned after Jodie Whittaker’s debut for what I can only imagine will be an emotional goodbye to the Twelfth Doctor.Doctor Who: Farewell to Peter Capaldi will feature archival footage from the actor’s first and last table reads, as well as new interviews with cast and crew.Retiring showrunner Steven Moffat has weaseled his way into the retrospective, according to BBC America, which promised musings from the veteran writer and producer. The U.S. exclusive is narrated by Colin McFarlane, who played Moran opposite the Twelfth Doctor in season nine episodes “Under the Lake” and “Before the Flood.”After four years and countless adventures, Capaldi in January announced plans to leave the TARDIS after the 10th season.“This will be the end for me,” he told BBC Radio 2 DJ Jo Whiley, praising the long-running British sci-fi drama. “I feel sad. I love Doctor Who. It’s a fantastic program to work on.”All good things must come to an end, though. And that end is coming soon: In 17 days, tune in to see what happens when the Twelfth Doctor meets the First Doctor (David Bradley as William Hartnell).Written by Moffat and directed by Rachel Talalay, the yuletide epilogue also marks the return of Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie), the addition of OG companions Ben Jackson (Jared Garfield) and Polly (Lily Travers), and the probable reappearance of Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman).Check out the latest teaser trailer—released today—and sneak a peek at the episode in the slideshow below.Remember to stock up on tissues. And don’t you dare try to contain your excitement at the introduction of Whittaker as the first female Doctor.Leading up to the festivities, BBC America will air a seven-day, 24-hour Doctor Who “full takeover marathon,” highlighting the Tenth (David Tennant), Eleventh (Matt Smith), and Twelfth Doctors.View as: One Page Slides1.
