Pigeons Playing Ping Pong Work Multiple Phish Favorites Into Beachfront Show

first_imgOn Thursday night, July 26th, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong made their way to Paddy’s Beach Club in Westerly, RI for a performance with support from Montana jam-grass quartet Kitchen Dwellers. After the Kitchen Dwellers’ well-received opening set, which they capped with a bluegrass cover of the Grateful Dead‘s “New Speedway Boogie”, Pigeons cast off on their set with “Sail On”. Psychology vehicle “Time to Ride” got the show moving from there, followed by renditions of “Fox & Toad” (Pizazz) and “Bad For You” (Pleasure).Next, the show took a turn into Phish-y territory, as Pigeons dove into “Down With Disease”, the phan-favorite off 1994’s Hoist. The band stuck with the Phish from there, segueing into a riotous “Run Like An Antelope” cover, with the lyrics amusingly altered to “bob like a pigeon out of control.” Pigeons Playing Ping Pong have similarly woven “Down With Disease” into their set before, including at New Haven, CT’s Pacific Standard Tavern in 2015 and during their Domefest 2017 Phish/Grateful Dead “Undercover” set, when they mashed-up “DWD” with “Shakedown Street” for a cleverly executed hybrid jam dubbed “Shakedown With Disease”.The Phish medley eventually slid into one of Pigeons’ own go-to originals, “Melting Lights”, which in turn fed into “King Kong”. From there, a trio of upbeat, beach-appropriate tunes (“Sunny Day”, “Fun In Funk”, and “Ocean Flows”) brought the set to a close. Finally, the band returned for a memorable encore, which saw them work through “J-Town” and into “E-Funk” before landing in a “Down With Disease” reprise to round out the performance.Next up for Pigeons Playing Ping Pong is a performance tomorrow, Saturday, July 28th at Tumble Down at Waterfront Park in Burlington, VT.Watch a selection of clips from Pigeons Playing Ping Pong’s Paddy’s performance below [Note: As of now, no video of the Phish covers has surfaced online, but we will update this article as soon as it becomes available]:“Burning Up My Time” Setlist: Pigeons Playing Ping Pong | Paddy’s Beach Club | Westerly, RI | 7/26/18Set: Sail On, Time to Ride, Fox & Toad, Bad For You, Down With Disease^ > Run Like An Antelope^* > Burning Up My Time > Melting Lights > King Kong, Sunny Day, Fun In Funk, Ocean FlowsE: J-Town > E-Funk > Down With Disease^Notes:^Phish Cover*”Bob Like A Pigeon out of control” “Fun In Funk”center_img “Melting Lights”last_img read more

CLUB VERSUS COUNTY ROW RETURNS TO THE SURFACE AFTER KILCAR REFUSE TO FIELD

first_imgKilcar decided not to field against Termon on Friday evening, following the request by the county management for no county players to play for their clubs on Friday. The on-going discontent between club managers and the county management has raised its head yet again, following Kilcar’s decision not to field in an All-County League Division One clash with Termon on Friday evening. Kilcar refused to field, when it emerged they would have to play the game without their county stars, who had been informed earlier in the day not to play by the county management.Donegal are currently preparing for an Ulster Final against Monaghan on July 20th. Termon travelled to Towney on Friday night, and were left fuming at the decision by Kilcar not to field.Termon had a number of players travel from different parts of the country to make it back for the match. Those players had to take a half day at work in order to make it back in time for the match, and were furious to find out that no game would be played.Referee Ian Molloy awarded Termon a walkover and it’s expected Termon will be awarded the two points. Those two points could prove to be crucial as Termon battle to avoid relegation. The return of former Finn Harps star James Doherty has boosted the Burn Road men, and he helped them get their first league win of the season against Ardara last week. However, the decision by Kilcar not to field against Termon has again raised the issue of the club versus county debate which has raged over the last number of years. The decision to postpone the club championship until Donegal’s involvement in the All-Ireland series ends was met with widespread criticism in GAA circles. The plight of the club player seems to be continuous and the incident on Friday has only reaffirmed the problem that exists. County players were allowed to play for their clubs yesterday afternoon, Eamon and Neil McGee lined out for Gaoth Dobhair as they defeated Glenswilly 2-12 to 0-11.Gaoth Dobhair’s other county starlet Odhran Mac Niallais sat out the clash after sustaining an ankle injury in training.Michael Murphy and Neil Gallagher didn’t play for Glenswilly, while Kilcar with the aid of their county starlets romped to an easy victory against Four Masters.CLUB VERSUS COUNTY ROW RETURNS TO THE SURFACE AFTER KILCAR REFUSE TO FIELD was last modified: July 7th, 2014 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:CountyfixturesGAAkilcarnewsrowSportTermonlast_img read more
