Hot talent The Jamaica Karting Association (JKA) 2017 Championship season picks up a gear at its second meet today at the Palisadoes International Raceway. The meet, dubbed Karting Karnival, will showcase the freshly minted 2016 South Florida Senior Champion, Christian Cole. Cole, who dominated the four-meet karting championship run through October to March at the Homestead Racing facility in Florida, claimed his second consecutive class title on March 26 by sweeping all his races. He is clearly a hot talent on a winning run and throwing him into the already torrid Rotax Senior class, which, at the JKA season opener on March 26, saw a four-way showdown among the 2016 Champion Jonathan Law, former Junior class champions Joshua and Justin Sirgany and veteran Senior class contender Matthew Williams can only result in fireworks for karting fans. Race action kicks off at 10 a.m. with qualifying for all classes. This will be followed by two rounds of racing with a break for lunch between. Each round of races consists of a set of pre-finals and finals for each of the six classes – potentially 24 races. Patrons interested in getting a taste of kart racing can rent a ride at the end of the day’s programme for a modest fee.
