Hurricane Fly regained his Stan James Champion Hurdle crown with what was in the end a commanding victory at the Cheltenham Festival. Hurricane Fly won the Champion Hurdle in 2011, but was beaten into third when an odds-on favourite 12 months ago, and was bidding to become the first horse to regain the title since Comedy Of Errors in 1975. Walsh said: “I can’t say I was overly confident – from the word go he didn’t travel as well as he can. He has an unbelievably big heart for a small horse. He made a mistake or two, but he’s as tough as nails. “I was in front a good two furlongs too soon. He pinged the last and I’m glad he got it back to show everyone he’s a true champion hurdler.” Mullins added: “We knew he was in good form all year. He was wining by far what I thought were the best trials in Ireland, and we got luck in running. “Last year was so disappointing, but since he came back this year he has been much heavier and stronger. Every gallop he’s had, every race he’s had, he’s bounced back and taken it all in his stride. “He was so aggressive in the pre-parade ring and he wanted to get on with the job. I was a bit worried at halfway. They’d gone such a pace and Ruby must have known that, too. Tactically, Ruby has a clock in his head and confidence in this horse as well. “That was a big plus for this horse as a lot of other guys would maybe have taken the stick out at halfway to keep him with the pace. Ruby just stayed where the horse was comfortable. He’s the champion hurdler again now.” Press Association There was a stage in the race when the Willie Mullins-trained 13-8 favourite did not seem to be going well at all under Ruby Walsh as Rock On Ruby bowled along in front, but he was travelling strongly again when they reached the business end of the contest. He led on the turn for home and jumped the last in front, and though Rock On Ruby kept on in determined fashion, Hurricane Fly had enough in the locker to dig deep and score by two and a half lengths. Countrywide Flame ran a great race to finish third, another length and three-quarters away.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — A day after hitting a season-high three home runs en route to a series-opening win, the Giants allowed a new 2019 high of four in a loss to the Washington Nationals.Giants starter Jeff Samardzija surrendered a pair of homers in the first inning before reliever Travis Bergen let a close game get out of hand late by giving up two in the seventh in a 9-6 loss. Despite forcing the Nationals to use each of their top relievers in a four-run ninth-inning, the Giants dug too deep of …

Eskom will provide back-up power for the venues. The local division of BP has donated all diesel to run the stadium generators, the company announced in March. And, in accordance to Fifa requirements, South Africa’s National Treasury allocated more than R200-million (US$25.6-million) to buy the machines. The International Broadcast Centre, from which all World Cup footage will be transmitted to fans across the globe, has 16 diesel-powered generators, “guaranteeing uninterrupted viewing worldwide,” government said. Thanks to a series of energy-conservation campaigns, South Africa is on target to save between 2 000 and 3 500MW of electricity before the tournament starts, it added.Eskom all fired upAn independent audit conducted by the Korean Power Company (Kepco) has certified that Eskom is ready to meet demand for the duration of the tournament. Released in April, the Kepco report said the utility’s commitment to reliable power supply was “admirable and comparable to all countries that have held this prestigious event”.Eskom began World Cup preparations in 2007 by coordinating with government, municipalities, customers and the broader Southern African community to minimise potential risks to the electricity supply.“We are confident that Eskom will be able to deliver sufficient bulk electricity supplies, ensuring reliable power during the 2010 Fifa World Cup,” said Erica Johnson, Eskom’s Customer Network Business chief officer. It is working closely with municipalities, which are final suppliers of electricity to consumers, to ensure that the relay process from power station to stadium operates effectively at all times.“To achieve this objective, Eskom has embarked on a comprehensive programme involving our staff and external stakeholders to cover all facets of the event,” Johnson said.Eskom has also completed comprehensive maintenance work on its plants and infrastructure, said Johnson, and has secured additional water and primary energy fuels as contingency measures.“These measures give us confidence that we can provide reliable supply during the games. In planning for any eventuality, we aim to reduce restoration time to customers by having maintenance teams on standby to attend to any localised power outage, such as electrical trips that may occur on the distribution network.”South Africa’s electrical supply has mostly been consistent over the last year, Eskom said. There have been no serious power outages since May 2008.The previous year, however, was not as successful due to rolling blackouts across the country caused by Eskom’s inability to meet the rising demand for power. Although this has been addressed, the utility says the country’s energy reserve margin is still not as wide as it should be.A looming strike at Eskom, which could also potentially threaten security of power supply, has been called off after the utility was granted an urgent court interdict preventing trade unions and their members from participating in industrial action.“Eskom is an essential service and employees of an organisation classified as such are prohibited from taking part in industrial action. Engaging in any such action would be considered unlawful,” it said in a statement.
Share Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest The state gets a little wet today with light rain overspreading the region. This morning and early afternoon, the northern part of the state will be most likely to be seeing rain. This afternoon and tonight, the central and southern thirds of the state will see better rain chances. Combined, we see rain totals for the entire event at a few hundredths to .4” with coverage at 70% of the state. Precipitation continues through a large part of tomorrow too, adding its best moisture totals early in the day, with action falling off in the afternoon an evening . It can add another tenth or two, but generally, we look for combined event rain totals to be at a half an inch or less over 90% of the state. We continue to forecast a great start to the weekend with sunshine dominating Saturday. Temps should moderate as well. But our next system remains on track to impact the second half of the weekend, with clouds increasing Saturday night. Rain arrives on Sunday and continues through Monday, even lingering into early Tuesday. Rain totals remain at .25”-.1” with coverage at near 90%. A few areas in southern southern Ohio may end up with better thunderstorms chances or perhaps multiple thunderstorms. That would push a few local areas above an inch of rain, but not many. The map at right shows rain totals from today through next Tuesday midday, which is a combined total of 2 weather systems. Later Tuesday and Wednesday will feature a mix of clouds and sun. We do not expect any well-organized shower action there. But we do see a better threat of rain coming later Wednesday night through Thursday and into early Friday. That system has really shown big signs of development over the past 24 hours and will shift in from NW to SE. Rain totals can be from .25”-1”, and we think there is good potential for some thunderstorm action. We turn out partly sunny on Friday and stay dry with sunshine through early the 14th. The extended period gets active rather quickly. We continue to watch several waves of moisture coming through for the 15th through the 18th. We are leaving rain potential at 1-3 inches for now, with coverage at nearly 100% of the state. We go drier for the 19th and 20th. But model agreement is fleeting, so there is plenty of time for data showing less moisture for the extended period to emerge.
Share Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest R & C Rivers Farms has 850,000 bushels of corn storage capacity at their main operation in Mount Sterling. But for soybeans, they’ve relied on 30 smaller bins at their other farm sites in Pickaway, Fayette and Madison counties.“It wasn’t a very efficient system and made hauling the grain too complex,” said Brent Rivers, the owner. “So, we decided to build a new soybean grain system to be more productive.”Designed and built by local GSI dealer, Sims Construction, the new system is located about a quarter mile away from the main operation. It includes:Two 160,000-bushel capacity dry storage bins with fans to aerate the grain.A grain handling system that includes a conveyor, grain leg and bucket elevator to transfer harvested grain from a dump site to the storage bins at the rate of 12,000 to 14,000 bushels per hour. And a 5,000-bushel capacity overhead hopper tank that can fill a 1,000-bushel semi-truck for grain delivery in just 4 to 5 minutes.“The new GSI system will make this year’s harvest a lot more convenient, especially for our truck drivers,” Rivers said. “It’s actually like adding an extra truck or two because they will be able to dump their grain more quickly and get back to the field faster.”As for the existing soybean bins, he plans to continue using some of them and rent out the others. The soybean system was also designed to allow for future expansion, which Rivers estimates may be necessary in about two years. The layout includes a footprint for two more storage bins, each with 160,000 bushels of capacity, a wet storage bin and a grain dryer.Brent RiversLike many farmers, Rivers has traditionally let his soybeans dry down in the field and relied on aeration fans rather than using a grain dryer. But that trend is changing, as more producers see the benefit of drying their beans.“With the wet weather pattern we’ve had the last year or two, there’s a big advantage in having a dryer,” Rivers said. “It will provide the flexibility to get my soybeans out of the field faster and improve overall harvest efficiency.”Rivers said he’s pleased with how the first phase of the project turned out and how it will make his 2019 harvest season run a lot more smoothly.

Professionals working with military couples can help by spreading the word. Marriage can be considered a protective factor for post-traumatic stress and depression. For instance, married service members are 46 % less likely to be diagnosed with depression, and 20% less likely to present with post traumatic stress symptoms than their single counterparts . Furthermore, among those returning from Afghanistan and Iraq, service members who were separated or divorced reported higher levels of depression and post-traumatic stress . The typical victim of intimate partner violence (IPV) in the military is under twenty-five years old, is a parent and has been married two years or less . Marriage strengthening can support service members and their spouses while undergoing separations and protect against family violence. It’s doable, but it’s certainly not easy to record cinematic, long-form productions with DSLR cameras.Cover image via Shutterstock. If we could go back in time and speak with Joe DSLR (or whoever it was who invented the digital single-lens reflex camera) about his decision, I can pretty much guarantee he would not mention long-form video recording as one of his main goals.DSLRs (and many other mirrorless and digital cameras) are marvels of video capture technology, but they’re not really meant to record for long periods on end. For most long-form needs, you’ll need to look for cheaper camcorder options or a few higher-end options. However, for those looking to use their trusty prosumers (like a Canon 5D or comparable) to record long-form content, here are some ways to trick ol’ Joe DSLR into helping you get the job done.1. Maximize Recording CapabilitiesImage via Shutterstock. If you’re familiar with Canon DSLRs, you may assume that the maximum recording capabilities for your camera are 30 mins (or 25 minutes and 59 seconds) if you look at your manual. However, this is and isn’t true in a couple of ways. Yes, that’s the max time built into the camera, but if you just turn your camera on and hit record, you’ll find that your camera does a couple of things differently — and probably maxes out its recording at around 12 minutes. There are a couple of reasons for this. The biggest hindrance is that most Canon DSLRs can only record 4gb files at a time. (Newer cameras won’t stop recording at this point — they’ll simply create a new file.) This is assuming that your camera sensor doesn’t overheat. Other factors like card speed and battery life come into play as well. So what does that mean for maximizing your capabilities? To truly push your camera as far as it can go, you can do a few things. One is reduce your recording quality as much as you can (even down into SD). This will save the most in terms of card writing speed, memory, and battery life. You can also use add-on items like battery packs, or even directly power your camera through an AC adapter. It should also go without saying that you should be using the fastest card possible.2. Hack It with Magic LanternOnce you’ve maximized your camera capabilities with the built-in software, you can further hack it by using add-on programs. (Note: using Magic Lantern and other third-party firmware voids certain camera warranties, so use at your own risk!) Magic Lantern is a popular open-source software that you can load into your camera’s firmware to gain more control. It’s probably best known as a go-to hack to get higher recording quality out of your Canon DSLRs for RAW footage. By the same token, it can also help you reduce your recording quality by decreasing H264 bitrate and framerates.Watch the 7D Magic Lantern hack video above, or read more about their add-ons here.3. Use More Than One CameraImage via Youtube.Even after maximizing your camera’s capabilities with built-in features and Magic Lantern hacks, you still may not get the full, continuous shooting capabilities you need. If you’re looking to shoot several hours of nonstop footage and would like that DSLR quality, your best bet at the end of the day may be to use more than one camera. With a solid two-camera setup you can work with your camera’s capabilities and shoot in 10-minute bursts. While one camera shoots, you can let the other one cool down and replace things like batteries and cards. The biggest trick would be finding a setup where the cameras can be close enough together to make the footage match. You’ll also get the best result out of this setup if you use two of the exact same cameras with the same lenses. However, if you must mix and match, try to be consistent in terms of sensor sizes, lens lengths, ISO, and white balance to save yourself extra work in post. For more production tips and tricks, check out some of these resources below.Filmmaking Tricks: How to Make One Camera Look Like Two3 Tips You Must Know Before Shooting a Multicam ProductionHow to Use a Third Camera on Interview Shoots5 Affordable Streaming-Ready Cameras for Your Next Live Event
Industry news: Canon has recently announced their latest release — the EOS M50, the company’s first 4K mirrorless camera.Image via Canon.Coming in at the low price of $780, Canon’s latest M-series release is the company’s first foray into 4K territory. Canon has employed their new DIGIC 8 image processor, enabling the new camera to capture raw 4K video. However, while this camera is an improvement over the M5, which lacked 4K capabilities, the M50 can only shoot 24p in 4K. Let’s take a look at some of the camera’s other features.Though the 4K capability is nice, there is a 1.6X APS-C crop factor, and the dual-pixel auto-focus is limited to 1080p. Given the previous M-series cameras, one can’t help but ask what the point is? If this is a cheaper, entry-level camera, then what incentive do users have for buying the more expensive M5 and M6 models? With a 24.1 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, the DIGIC 8 Image Processor and a variety of brilliant interchangeable lens options, the EOS M50 camera can help you get photos and videos with incredible color, sharp and clear details and stunning dynamic range. This camera will appeal to vloggers and daily content creators. There’s built-in WiFi, Bluetooth, and a flippable touch screen perfect for turning the camera on yourself. The M50 also features improved 143 autofocus points — but apparently only 99 autofocus points will work with certain lenses. However, on a brighter note, there is a new eye-detection focusing feature that focuses on your subject’s eyes with a simple tap of the touchscreen. The camera allows you to shoot with EF lenses, but you’ll need the EF-EOS M adapter. Unlike other mirrorless cameras currently on the market, the M50 does not feature in-body optical stabilization.Specs:4K Recording at 24p.Dual Pixel CMOS AF (Face+Tracking AF, Zone AF, 1-point AF).AF Points — 143/99 points.EF-M lens (and EF/EF-S lenses when using Mount Adapter EF-EOS M).Image Format — Approx. 22.3 x 14.9mm (APS-C Size).24.1 Megapixel (APS-C) sensor.12.4 oz. / 351g (body only).Recording Format — EXIF 2.31 (DCF2.0).If you’re interested in what else we might see in 2018, check out our camera rumors coverage.Looking for more information on video gear?
